Misawa Airport in Misawa is the only airport in Japan where the US air force, Japan Air Self Defense force and commercial planes share. The Misawa Aviation & Science Museum is the symbol of the city deeply involved with airplanes, and its theme is the sky and flight.

Intriguing aircrafts are on display, such as Miss Veedol which made the world's first non-stop flight across the Pacific Ocean from Japan to the USA, or the replica of the Wright Flyer made by Wright Brothers in the USA. In 2021, the real Honda Jet was added to the collection. Flight simulator and simulated experience of space exploration are so amusing not only for children but also for adults.

The outdoor Misawa City Ozora Hiroba (Sky Field) also has fighter jets and cargo planes displayed. Many of these are real crafts rented from the Air Defense-Force and the American Air Force. There are hours when a flight simulation or tour inside some crafts is available. Check the website for details.

Highlights

  • A host of new and classic airplanes are on display.
  • You can not only see them but have hands-on experiences as well.
