Miketsukuni is a designated country presenting food such as salt and seafood to the Imperial Court in the old times, this facility introduces a history, culture, and food about Miketsukuni. In addition to the museum, there is also a kitchen studio, where visitors can join cooking class using local ingredients and processing by advance reservation. Visitos try cooking various dishes for seasonal Japanese events or celebrating food for new year’s days. In the food process class, you can try making souvenirs of Wakasa local speciality such as Oshizushi with mackerel, Temari Sushi, Kamaboko, and Kuzu Manju.

The museum displays replicated foods and panels for easy understanding on the theme, for example, “Zoni”, a symbol dish to celebrate new year’s days in Japan, Washoku designated as an UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage, and Miketsukuni Wakasa and Saba-kaido (Mackerel Highway) designated as a Japan Heritage. There is a booth to introduce the roots and secrets of the delicious taste of authentic Sushi, which is a popular tourist attraction for many foreign visitors to Japan.

As a Miketsukuni, Obama sustained the food culture of Kyoto by presenting salt and sea food to the Imperial Court in the ancient times. Obama is also famous as the starting place of the Mackerel Highway. It offers a wide variety of gourmet mackerel dishes such as Sabazushi, Heshiko. Together with food and traditional events that have been handed down from generation to generation, it has been recognized as a Japan Heritage site as “Wakasa Heritage – Connecting the Sea and Kyoto ~ Imperial food purveyors and the Mackerel Road ~”.
