Uonuma-no-Sato
A brewery theme park at the foot of Mt. Hakkai.
Hakkai Brewery, known for Niigata’s famous sake “Hakkaisan,” runs this multi facility under the theme of Sake and Food. At the foot of lush Mt. Hakkai, Japanese sake breweries, restaurants and shops, 13 in all cluster.
Hakkaisan Yukimuro is where you can experience the life of snowy region. The snow storage is this region’s traditional culture, a natural refrigerator made of snow gathered during winter to preserve sake and vegetables. Here, 1,000 tons of snow is carried in to make a giant storage with snow. When summer comes, some hunks of snow still have not melted. There is a corner where you can try some drinks while listening to the guide or a shop that offers excellent kitchen products.
Besides sake, you can taste original craft beer “Rydeen Beer” at Sarukurayama Brewery, the best soba noodles at a traditional Japanese home transferred to Uonuma, Sobaya Nagamori, or sweets made of sake or sake lees at Kashidokoro Satoya. “Minna no Shain Shokudo” is Hakkai Brewery’s popular corporate cafeteria opened to everyone during lunch time.
