Sendai Asaichi Morning Market

“Sendai Asaichi" has the advantage of being extremely accessible, only a five-minute walk from Sendai Station. The market sells mainly fresh local Miyagi fresh food products. There are also many diners, allowing visitors to enjoy all the food Miyagi has to offer, from shopping to dining.

Originating from the "Aozora Ichiba" (open-air market) established in front of Sendai Station in 1945, it has grown into a major shopping street with approximately 60 stores.　The products on sale include a wide range of local vegetables, fruits, fresh fish, and marine products, as well as meat, prepared foods, pickles, and grains.
Miyagi Prefecture is also known as the "kingdom of food ingredients." The Asaichi-market sells seasonal products, Sendai strawberries, silver salmon in the spring, Sendai naganasu-eggplant, Hoya (sea squirt) in the summer, in the fall, Tuna and Kinka-saba mackerel, which are called Higashimono, and Nanamegarei -flatfish and Sendai Yukina-greens in the winter.

There are also a wide variety of dining establishments, including a diner that sells cooked fish and prepared foods, a restaurant specializing in custom salads using fresh vegetables from the morning market, and a coffee shop that is perfect for waking up in the morning. The Asaichi Shokudo Shoya's popular Asaichi-don (morning market rice bowl) is especially popular, offering a bowl of fresh seafood for as little as 500 yen for a single coin.
