With 26 courses and 34 lifts, this is the largest snow resort in Japan. The big slope is made up of 6 areas with an array of courses for beginners and the advanced. The quality of snow is so good that skiers and snowboarders flock here seeking for the fluffy powder snow.
The highest area is world-renowned for the artistic ice trees. The panoramic view over Zao Mountains and the brilliant ice trees created by nature are breath-taking combination. There is access prepared especially for tourists besides the access for skiers.
At the center of the vast ski resort, Zao Onsen is located which is said to have opened 1900 years ago. It is the oldest in Tohoku Region, prospering already in Edo Period as the west entry point to Zao Gongen. The spring water is strongly acidic and contains sulfur, which is said to be effective for beautiful skin. The hot spring is open for the inn guests and day-time visitors alike.
