Kaiunbashi Bridge (Good Fortune Bridge)

Kaiunbashi Bridge (Good Fortune Bridge) is located near JR Morioka Station. This bridge spans the Kitakami-gawa River that flows through Morioka City and connects Morioka Station and the city center. The first bridge was built in 1890, and the current bridge is the third generation, built-in 1953. The bridge went through a period of dark green and white, and the existing bridge is painted moon white.

Mt.Iwate is the highest mountain in the prefecture at 2,038 meters above sea level. The view of the Kitakami-gawa River and snow-covered Mt.Iwate is a must-see, representing Morioka in winter. Visitors can also enjoy the seasonal flowers blooming along the riverbeds. Also, during the nighttime, the lights are illuminated for a limited period. The bridge is beautifully enveloped in a fantastic atmosphere that is different from that of the daytime. The bridge is a type of truss bridge with arches, and its simplicity allows it to match the scenery of any season.

Another name for this bridge is "Nidonakibashi-Bridge (Double Weeping Bridge). "The origin of this name comes from the fact that people who are transferred to Morioka for work or other reasons and first come to live in Morioka lament at this bridge, crying that they have come to such a remote and faraway place. But when they leave Morioka a few years later, they cross the bridge crying again and saying, "I don't want to leave this place because of having experienced the warmth of the people and town of Iwate.
