Zao Waka no Yado Wakamatsuya

Hot spring lodging with the view of Mt. Zao, which Mokichi Saito loved.

Last update :

A local poet Mokichi Saito (1882-1953) was well-known in Taisho and Showa Period. He made poems about Mt. Zao which is one of 100 Famous Mountains in Japan. At the foot of the mountain, Zao Onsen spreads and one of the inns, Waka no Yado, Wakamatsuya, is known as the place Mokichi stayed.

Wakamatsuya has an in-house source spring which produces 72 liters of hot water a minute. In the outdoor bath made of 18-ton boulders carved out or in a reserved bathroom for a family, enjoy the abundantly-flowing, famous beauty water. The meals use plenty of Yamagata’s ingredients in season. You get to taste the delicate Yamagata Beef in the Japanese Kaiseki dinner “Yamagata Shun Tsuzuri Zen.” The inn is on a plateau, providing an outstanding view of Mt. Zao through the windows. Kick back in a comfortable Japanese or modern-Japanese guest room.

Since this inn is related to the memory of Mokichi Saito, each guestroom comes with a brush pen and paper. Write down your thoughts, and it will be displayed at Yukoji Gallery or other parts of the inn. Soothe your heart and body in the hot spring and nature. Try making a poem to commemorate your trip.
