Matsushima is one of the three most scenic spots in Japan, with a spectacular view of about 260 islands floating in the bay. Facing Matsushima Bay, "Santorichaya" is a restaurant where you can taste fresh seafood dishes from Matsushima.

For lunch, the main dish is DON-mono(a bowl of rice with toppings) topped with seafood such as sea urchin, salmon roe, and tuna. Among them, the softly cooked "Matsushima Anago(conger eel) DON" is a popular item in limited quantities. This menu is available throughout the year, but is particularly recommended during the summer months when the fish is fatty. In the evening, the a la carte dishes, which change according to the day's stock, are popular to enjoy with Miyagi's sake. The oysters from Matsushima, which can be enjoyed raw, grilled, or fried, are a must-try from fall through winter.

The restaurant, managed by the owner with his family, has an at-home atmosphere. In the evening, one of the pleasures is to take a seat at the counter on the first floor and engage in lively conversation with the owner and local regulars. Feel free to ask for advice on local sake that goes well with the cuisine.

In addition to the Zuiganji-Godaido Hall located just a short walk from the restaurant, Zuiganji Temple, Fukuura-jima Island, and other spots around Matsushima Bay are within walking distance, making it a great place to enjoy a meal in between sightseeing tours of Matsushima. The view of Matsushima from the restaurant's second-floor seats is also magnificent.
