At the highest peak in Akita Prefecture, Mount Akita-Komagatake is celebrated as a "flower mountain" where visitors can encounter delicate and vibrant alpine plants.

Last update :

At an elevation of 1,637 meters, Mount Akita-Komagatake is the tallest peak in Akita Prefecture, comprised of several peaks including Oname-dake and Odake. Known as the "flower mountain," it attracts hikers with its vibrant alpine flora from June to August each year.

Around 300 species of plants bloom on this mountain, ranging from Ezotsutsuji to Obakizumire, Rhododendron, and Gentian. Due to its latitude and climate, some species typically found only on mountains above 3,000 meters can also be seen here, offering a breathtaking display of delicate and colorful flowers.

From the 8th station parking lot, it takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the summit of Oname-dake at a leisurely pace. The well-maintained trails, some of which are relatively flat and accessible, make it easy for hikers of all ages to enjoy the journey. As you hike, you can admire the alpine plants and take in the expansive views, including Mount Chokai in the distance.

The Katakura-dake observation deck offers a sweeping view of Lake Tazawa, Japan's deepest lake.
