Michinoku Lakeside National Government Park
A vast national park where visitors can spend the whole day surrounded by the beauty of lush nature.
Located at the foot of the majestic Mt. Zao and adjacent to Kamafusa Lake, Michinoku Lakeside National Government Park is the only national park in the Tohoku region. The expansive park is divided into three main areas:
Minami (South) Area:
This area features vibrant seasonal flower gardens and Furusato Mura, where traditional thatched-roof houses from across Tohoku have been relocated, offering a nostalgic glimpse into the region’s cultural heritage. Kids will love Warasuko Hiroba, an exciting playground with huge trampolines, roller slides, and jungle gym-like rope structures.
Kita (North) Area:
Perfect for nature lovers, this area includes a campground, a spacious dog park, and wide open grassy field
Satoyama Area:
Situated between the North and South areas, this section highlights the nature and culture of Japan’s traditional satoyama (rural forested landscapes). It includes exhibition rooms and workshops for crafts like woodworking.
Don’t miss the cozy rest area in the South Area, built into a hill designed to resemble an ancient burial mound. It’s a great spot to relax and enjoy hot snacks—or even a special gelato made for dogs—after a full day exploring the park.
