Hunter Mountain Shiobara

Hunter Mountain Shiobara is a mountain resort located on the northwestern slopes of Mount Kogen in northern Tochigi Prefecture. Just about 150 minutes from the Tokyo metropolitan area via the Tohoku Expressway, it’s easily accessible and perfect for a day trip.

From late November to early April, it transforms into one of the largest snow resorts near Tokyo, attracting many visitors. The resort offers 12 ski courses that cater to all skill levels, with the longest run stretching up to 3,000 meters. For ski beginners, especially families with kids, the "Sesame Street" course offers an ultra-gentle slope with a 5-degree incline. There’s also a well-equipped kids' park featuring soft slides, tubing, and even bouldering, making it a hit with families.

During the warmer months from early May to November, the wide slopes are transformed into an auto campground. Situated at an elevation of around 1,150 meters, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy the refreshing highland air and stunning views while camping.
