Kurobe Dam

Whopping sprays in a true sight to see at Kurobe Dam, Japan's tallest dam.

Head Editor : KANDEN AMENIX Co.,Ltd.

Standing 186 meters tall, Kurobe Dam is Japan's tallest and one of the largest dams in the world. It took seven years and the efforts of over 10 million workers to overcome numerous challenges, earning it the title of a "monumental project of the century" at the time of its construction.

The dam's most impressive feature is it’s own unique moment of sightseeing, a grand water spouting held from early June to early October. Each second, 10 tons of mist-like water is released, creating a breathtaking spray that’s truly unbeat. Catch the sight from a number of different spots including the Dam Observation Deck, the exterior staircase, the New Observation Plaza, the Rainbow Terrace, and the dam embankment itself, where visitors can experience the sheer power up close. For a special memory, visit one of the two “Photo Dam” spots (fee applies) located at the right bank of the dam and the New Observation Plaza, for a chance to snap a shot with the grandest of water displays at your back.

Don't forget to stop by the "Ogisawa-Kurobe Dam Rest House" and try the famous "Dam Curry," inspired by the dam's lake.
