Tsunan Snow Festival
A snow festival filled with events, featuring countless lanterns floating through the night sky.
The Tsunan Snow Festival is held every year in Tsunan Town, the southernmost part of Niigata Prefecture. Known as one of the snowiest regions in the world, this event showcases the beauty and excitement of snow like no other.
The main venue is the ski slopes of New Greenpia Tsunan, where visitors can enjoy various snow activities, such as sliding down a giant snow tube slide, snowmobiling, and exploring igloos. At night, around 2,000 sky lanterns are released, illuminating the snow and rising slowly into the night sky in a magical display. Fireworks light up the climax, enhancing the unforgettable experience. Additionally, a special site is set up in the central area of Tsunan Town at Owarino, with food stalls and stage events to enjoy.
To participate in the sky lantern release, advance tickets are required, which include a parking pass for either the New Greenpia Tsunan venue or a temporary parking lot. For those using the temporary lot or wishing to view the lanterns, a paid shuttle bus will transport guests to the main venue. Please note that tickets are currently not available for purchase from overseas.
