Nara has had a lot to do with ice since the time of Heijokyo Capital - People made ice in winter, kept it in Himuro (Ice storage), and provided it to the imperial court. Himuro Shirayuki Festival began in 2014 is a festivity of shaved ice held in Kasugano, Nara City.

Each year, famous shaved ice and confectionery shops from all over Japan participate in the festival, offering exclusive, original shaved ice creations made specifically for this event. The shaved ice is served at the Nara Park Bus Terminal, where visitors can enjoy a variety of unique flavors.

Since the advance tickets (Hōnō Sanjo-ken) are available only while supplies last, those looking to try popular shops or specific shaved ice flavors should check early to secure their spot.
