Nomura Family followed the warlord Toshiie Maeda when he entered the Kanazawa Castle in 1853, then served him on executive posts in the Kaga Domain for 11 generations. This is where the Nomura Family used to live and the only place publicly opened among many mid and upper-class samurai residences in Nagamachi area.
The current building consists of the partial remaining earthen walls and a stream, as well as the raised guest room and a reception hall of a wealthy merchant in Kaga Domain transferred here. In the raised room made of cypress, you can see the paper doors decorated by the in-house painter of Kaga Domain, or sliding doors with glass panels allowing guests to see the garden. There is a tea room Fubaku-an upstairs where you can view the graceful garden below and enjoy Matcha green tea and sweets (Matcha green tea: 300 yen).
On the premises, there is a museum, Onikawa Bunko, made of a remodeled earthen storage, showing Nomura Family’s treasured swords and letters sent by famous warlords.
