The Enoshima Sea Candle, Japan's first privately established lighthouse, was built in 1951 and renovated in 2013 as part of the centennial celebration of the Enoshima Electric Railway. Constructed with a focus on "landscape and environmental consideration”, "pursuit of public utility value” and "regional tourism promotion”, the spot continues to draw numbers of eager tourists to this day.

From the glass-enclosed observation floor set at a towering 101.56 meters above sea level, visitors can enjoy a sweeping view of Sagami Bay and Mount Fuji. To top it off, there’s even an open-air observation deck with amazing views that’s perfect for pleasant weather. At the base of the tower, a wooden deck terrace allows guests to enjoy meals while watching the sunset.

Swing by for the Jewels of Shonan illumination event held from mid-November to February when the Enoshima Sea Candle is all aglow in blue and purple hues, lighting up the entire island at this recommended time of year.
