Chef Heinz Beck, from Rome's La Pergola, winner of 3 Michelin stars for 12 consecutive years, is a master in the world of gastronomy. Now his first fine dining establishment has opened in Tokyo!

  A Healthy and Beautiful Lunch at “SHISEIDO THE TABLES” in Ginza

  The flagship store for Shiseido, “SHISEIDO THE STORE,” opened in January of 2018. This time, I’ll be having lunch at the 4th floor café of that very building, in “SHISEIDO THE TABLES.” As expected of the cosmetics brand Shiseido, the café supposedly sells healthy food and drinks that are made with seasonal ingredients.

  Enjoy Lunch at the Historic Forest Restaurant “Matsumotoro”

  The historic western-style restaurant first opened in 1903 alongside Hibiya Park. The park’s fountain is located just in front of the restaurant, and it’s also close to the Imperial Palace, so it’s a great place to visit while walking through the area.

  Ginza’s A Votre Sante Endo is where you’ll find unorthodox fruit curry and traditional omelet rice under one roof.

  I visited A Votre Sante Endo, a western food restaurant in Ginza, for lunch. Their menu boasted the usuals: pasta, pizza, traditional curry, and various other dishes. But, believe it or not, what this eatery is famous for is its fruit curry and omelet rice! (Yes, you read that correctly!)

  Lunch at Shikun Shisou Raika, a Shanghaiese Restuarant in Tokyo Midtown Hibiya

  Hibiya is a neighborhood in Tokyo known for its cinemas and theaters. In March of 2018, Tokyo Midtown Hibiya opened and I visited a Shanghaiese restaurant called Raika in this building. There are also Raika branches in Tokyo's Shinjuku Gyoen and Aoyama. All three locations are so popular that it's hard to get in without a reservation.

  Trying Out the Unagi at “Tsukiji Miyagawa Honten” in Tokyo, a Long-Standing Restaurant

  In business for over 120 years, “Tsukiji Miyagawa Honten” is famous for its historic unagi (eel). This is the main location for the “Miyagawa” restaurants scattered across Japan. This is where I decided to enjoy a somewhat luxurious unagi lunch.

  A Chinese Lunch at “Zenshutoku,” a Ginza Restaurant Famous for its Peking Duck

  “Zenshutoku” is a Chinese restaurant that serves up authentic Peking duck. Their Peking duck is carefully prepared in the same process, made up of over 50 steps, as that at the famous restaurant “Quanjude.” Zenshutoku’s Ginza location closed over 3 years ago due to a fire, but it was finally able to reopen in November of 2018. I decided to stop by for lunch right away.

  A Taste of a Classic Kyoto Restaurant in Tokyo Midtown’s Hibiya, “Nanzenji Hyotei Hibiya Store”

  Hyotei is a long-standing historic restaurant on the grounds of Kyoto’s Nanzen-ji Temple. Established roughly 450 years ago, it started out as a teahouse. It is well-known for its soft-boiled eggs, known as “Hyotei Tamago,” and its breakfast porridge. Hyotei opened a new location in Tokyo Midtown’s Hibiya in March of 2018, so I made a reservation and stopped by for lunch.

  Tokyo, GINZA SIX – Enjoy Cha Soba and Matcha Parfaits at “Nakamura Tokichi Honten,” a Long-Standing Tea Shop!

  Nakamura Tokichi Honten is a Japanese tea specialty shop that was founded in 1819. With stores in Kyoto Station, Uji City, and Hong Kong, it is an extremely popular shop that is both a tea store and a café, and it isn’t unusual to have to wait over an hour even on weekdays! Another location opened in “GINZA SIX,” a commercial building in Ginza, in April of 2017, and the lines there every day are a testament to its popularity!

  Casual French Cuisine at BISTRO MARX in Ginza

  My lunch this time was a BISTRO MARX on the 7th floor of the GINZA PLACE building. This is the world’s first branch of the Grand Bistro, supervised by Thierry Marx, head chef of 2-star Paris restaurants. Here you can enjoy Marx-styled French cuisine themed after “a fusion of cooking and bread” for a reasonable price.

  “ARGILE” opened in 2016 as a sister restaurant to Michelin 2-star French restaurant ESqUISSE. Both are French restaurants, but compared to ESqUISSE, where even lunch courses can run you 11000 yen, ARGILE is comparatively casual and has meal options starting at 5000 yen. ARGILE was published in 2018’s Michelin Guide, earning its first star.

  Tokyo – GINZA SIX “Kurogi Chacha” Tai Chazuke

  This time, I had lunch at “Kurogi Chacha,” a collaboration between the Japanese restaurant “Kurogi” and the long-standing Kyoto uji-cha store “Fukujuen.” The original “Kurogi,” located in Minato-ku, is an extremely popular restaurant for which it is hard to secure reservations, but as this GINZA SIX location does not accept reservations, so even tourists can get in!

  A new landmark in Ginza, GINZA SIX, had its grand opening on April 20th of 2017! This time, I visited GINZA SIX's #1 luxury café, Dior. Another French brand, Pierre Hermé Paris, is in charge of the café’s sweets selection. This Ginza location offers a Japanese goods-only menu, made with carefully selected Japan-produced ingredients.

  Tokyo GINZA SIX “Tempura Yamanoue”

  A new landmark in Ginza, GINZA SIX, had its grand opening on April 20th of 2017! This building is one of the largest in Ginza, the most prestigious shopping district in Japan, and it is crowded every day! The top floor, floor 13, hosts nothing but premium restaurant and drinking establishments. Among those is a newly opened location for “Tempura Yamanoue,” a restaurant operated and owned by Yamanoue Hotel in Tokyo’s Chiyoda-ku, and I just had to hurry over for lunch!This is a restaurant where you can enjoy authentic tempura.
